WELCOME TO The Black Horse |
Situated in a secluded and pleasant backwater off the Gordano Valley in North Somerset, the Black Horse Inn originates from a time when, long before Christopher Columbus is said to have discovered the Americas, the local pub was the heart and sole of the village. In more modern times, having changed landlords only a handful of times during the 20th Century, the present owners Nick and Jane Evans extend a friendly and cordial welcome to locals and visitors alike, and maintain the tradition of well kept beers, ales and ciders served with simple, tasteful lunchtime fayre.
Known locally as "The Kicker" this 14th Century Inn has changed little in its history; most of its original features can still be seen to today, a testimony to the craftsmen of their day. With real ale still served from a chilled stillage counter inside the bar, a range of local traditional rough and bright ciders, a complete tariff of bottled beers and lagers and a comprehensive list of wines and spirits, the Black Horse Inn is a unique experience for the discerning drinker; matchless in its authenticity with nothing of its kind to rival the experience for miles around in the surrounding area.

Directions from M5: Leave the motorway at J19 and take the Northern exit signed to Portishead (the A369 Portbury By-pass). Continue on this road for a few miles until you reach the Portishead roundabout, and take the first exit left signed to Clevedon (Portbury Common/Bristol Road). Follow this road past Portishead football club (PAFC) until you reach a mini roundabout with St. Josephs Primary School on the left. Stay left through the next mini roundabout and the immediate next mini roundabout (Clevedon Road). You will now see Portishead Secondary School on the right. Carry on underneath the pedestrian bridge and turn left at the next (third) mini roundabout (Clapton Lane). Continue along this lane taking care over the narrow bridges until you come to the village of Clapton-in-Gordano. The second on the right is Clevedon Lane. The Black Horse is approximately 200 metres along Clevedon Lane on the right.
